Why a Single Tooth Implant Is the Gold Standard for Replacing a Missing Tooth
A dental implant is the closest thing to a natural tooth. Instead of relying on neighboring teeth for support, an implant stands on its own. A small titanium post is placed directly into your jawbone, where it fuses with the bone over time. That creates a stable, permanent anchor for a custom-made crown.
What Makes an Implant Different From Other Tooth Replacement Options
Other options like bridges and partial dentures work, but they have trade-offs. A bridge requires altering the two healthy teeth on each side of the gap. A removable partial denture sits on your gums and can slip or click. A single tooth implant replaces only the missing tooth. Nothing else is changed. It feels, looks, and functions more like your original tooth.
What Happens When You Leave a Missing Tooth Untreated
Gaps in your smile are not just cosmetic. When a tooth is missing, the jawbone in that spot begins to shrink over time because it no longer has a root to stimulate it. The teeth next to the gap may shift, your bite can change, and you may develop pain in your jaw from uneven chewing. Leaving a missing tooth untreated often leads to more dental problems down the road, which can be more complex and costly to fix.
Benefits of Choosing Southern Charm Dentistry for Your Single Tooth Implant
Your decision matters, and so does where you go. Southern Charm Dentistry offers the full implant process in one place, with technology and personal care that set us apart.
Everything Done In-House — No Referrals, No Runaround
Many patients come to us after being bounced between a general dentist and an oral surgeon. That back-and-forth can be frustrating and time-consuming. At Southern Charm Dentistry, Dr. Kaycee performs the entire implant procedure in our Concord office — from the 3D CT scan and the implant placement to the final restoration. You see one team, one location, and one doctor from start to finish. It is care that is built around you, not around a referral network.
Guided Implant Technology for Greater Precision and Comfort
Before placing your implant, we take a 3D CT scan of your jaw. That image is used with computer-guided surgical software to plan the exact position and angle of your implant. This precision means smaller incisions, less disruption to surrounding tissue, and faster healing. The whole process is designed with your comfort in mind.
Single Tooth Implant vs. Dental Bridge — Which Is Right for You?
Both a single tooth implant and a dental bridge can replace a missing tooth, but they work differently. This table shows the key differences to help you discuss your options with Dr. Kaycee.
| Feature | Single Tooth Implant | Dental Bridge |
|---|---|---|
| Bone preservation | Stimulates bone, prevents bone loss | Does not preserve underlying bone |
| Adjacent teeth affected | Unaffected | Requires filing down the two neighboring teeth |
| Longevity | 20+ years or more with proper care | 10-15 years on average |
| Maintenance | Brush and floss like a natural tooth | Requires special flossing under the bridge |
| Upfront cost | Higher initial investment | Lower initial cost |
| Procedure steps | Surgery to place implant + healing + crown | Two visits to prepare and place the bridge |
For many patients, an implant is the better long-term choice because it protects your jawbone and leaves your other teeth untouched. But a bridge may still be a good option depending on your oral health and preferences. We will walk through both with you so you can decide with confidence.
What to Expect: Your Single Tooth Implant Process at Southern Charm
Knowing what happens ahead of time helps reduce anxiety. Here is an overview of the journey.
Step 1 — Consultation and 3D CT Imaging
Your first visit is a conversation. Dr. Kaycee examines the area, reviews your health history, and takes a 3D CT scan to see your jawbone and nerves. This gives him a complete picture before any treatment is planned.
Step 2 — Implant Placement (with Sedation Options Available)
On the day of surgery, we make sure you are comfortable. Local anesthesia numbs the area. If you are anxious about the procedure, you can choose nitrous oxide or IV sedation to help you relax. Dr. Kaycee then places the titanium implant into your jawbone. The entire appointment is typically about an hour.
Step 3 — Healing, Abutment, and Final Crown
After surgery, the implant needs time to fuse with the bone. This healing period usually takes 3 to 6 months. Once healing is complete, we attach a small piece called an abutment and then take an impression for your custom crown. The crown is made to match the color and shape of your natural teeth. When it is ready, we bond it in place. Your smile is whole again.
If your jawbone is not thick enough, a bone graft can be done first to create a solid foundation. Dr. Kaycee offers bone grafting in-house as well.
How Much Does a Single Tooth Implant Cost in Concord, NC?
The cost of a single tooth implant depends on several factors, including whether a bone graft is needed, the type of crown you choose, and your insurance coverage. The best way to get an accurate estimate is to schedule a consultation. Because no two mouths are exactly the same, we do not publish a flat fee that may not apply to your situation.
